This climatology is based on 13 years of observations from our home in Nederland, Colorado. While 13 years of data is not enough to technically represent a climatology, it does give an idea of the average conditions here at 8200 feet in the Front Range foothills.

Snow
Nederland averages over 150 inches of snow per year. It can snow in any month, although July and August are generally snow-free. While several snowstorms over 12 inches occur each winter, strong chinook winds can bring warm days even in January, helping to melt out roads and southern-facing mountain slopes. Many Coloradans call in sick on snow days and brave the elements to go skiing. Powder day! One of the largest snowfalls in recent memory occurred on March 17-19, 2003 when anywhere from 4-6 feet of snow fell over the Nederland area.

This is a list of the snowfalls of 12 inches or greater since 2010 (the year we moved to Nederland). Note that a majority of these storms have occurred in the Spring. Large Autumn storms can happen, especially on the nearby Colorado Eastern Plains, but Spring is the snowiest time of year in the Front Range Foothills.
